The Doerr School of Sustainability, officially launched on Sept 1st 2022, is a new school at Stanford University dedicated to addressing pressing environmental, climate, and sustainability challenges.

Despite receiving $1.69 billion in fossil-free money, the leaders of the Doerr School have decided to accept yet more money from fossil fuel companies. This compromises the school’s mission as a climate and sustainability school, as outlined in our op-ed series. At present, the Stanford’s climate and sustainability school accepts money from numerous Big Oil and Gas companies including BP, Chevron, Saudi Aramco, Shell, and Total. These companies fund programs researching everything from deep-sea oil exploration to hydraulic fracturing. Fossil fuel representatives recently helped to shape the school’s first “flagship destination,” as reported by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
